Redirect mode determines how redirection should be performed to the campaign destination point and if referrer data should be passed.
Referrer data is the information that is provided by browsers or servers. It is used to determine the page where a user originates from when he arrives at a particular site.
There are three modes of redirect supported by BeMob: 302, Meta and Double Meta.
Redirect modes are available for URL or Built-In Flow campaign destinations only.
If you want to change redirect mode for Flow destination, you can do it in Flow settings.
302 is the standard redirect mode that allows to send a visitor to the required landing page or offer. The referrer data is not hidden and is passed to the campaign endpoint with this mode selected.
To use 302 redirect mode:
With 302 redirect your tracking funnel will be the following:
Direct linking
Campaign URL → actual referrer data → Offer page
With landing page
Campaign URL → Landing page → actual referrer data → Offer page
Meta is used to hide your traffic sources from affiliate networks. Referrer data will be replaced by Campaign URL or Click URL.
This mode is performed with a code put in the <head>
tags of an HTML document that tells the browser to refresh and load new URL. The browser starts loading the head of the required page. Then the redirection to a new destination is starting.
To use Meta redirect mode:
With Meta redirect your tracking funnel will be the following:
Direct linking
Campaign URL → Campaign URL as referrer data → Offer page
With landing page
Campaign URL → Landing page → Click URL as referrer data → Offer page
Double Meta is simply meta mode implemented twice in a row.
Double Meta can be applied to hide traffic sources and landing pages from affiliate networks. Referrer will be replaced by referrer domain that should be added beforehand.
We highly recommend to use custom cloaking domain in your actual campaigns.
The detailed guide about how to add custom domain to tracker is available at this link.
Double Meta is slower then 302 or Meta redirects, which becomes an issue when working with mobile traffic.
But in the same time Double Meta is the most effective mode for hiding traffic sources and landing pages from your affiliate networks.
We recommend to use Meta and Double Meta modes for redirect to protect the referrer data.
To use Double Meta redirect mode:
With Double Meta redirect your tracking funnel will be the following:
Direct linking
Campaign URL → Redirect URL with cloaking domain as referrer data → Offer page
With landing page
Campaign URL → Landing page → Redirect URL with cloaking domain as referrer data → Offer page
